1. COMPOSITION

3. THERAPEUTIC CLASS

5-Alpha-Reductase Inhibitor

4. INDICATIONS

Finasteride 1 mg is indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in men.

Finasteride 5 mg is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for surgical intervention.

Finasteride is not indicated for use in women or children.

5. CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Hypersensitivity to finasteride or any component of the formulation.

  • Pregnancy or women who are or may potentially become pregnant.

  • Finasteride should not be used in children.

Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle crushed or broken tablets because of the potential risk to a male fetus.

6. DRUG INTERACTIONS

No clinically significant drug interactions are commonly reported with finasteride.

Finasteride may be used with other medicines commonly prescribed for BPH when clinically appropriate.

Patients should inform their physician about all prescription, non-prescription, and herbal medicines being taken.

7. ADMINISTRATION

For oral use only.

Finasteride 1 mg

The recommended dose for male pattern hair loss is 1 mg once daily, or as directed by the physician.

Finasteride 5 mg

The recommended dose for BPH is 5 mg once daily, or as directed by the physician.

The tablet may be taken with or without food. Swallow whole with water.

For BPH, improvement may require several months of continued treatment.

Finasteride reduces serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels; healthcare professionals should take this into account when interpreting PSA results.

8. STORAGE

Store below 25°C, protected from moisture and excessive heat.

Keep the container tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.
